Rabbi Jonathan Muskat

The Young Israel of Oceanside located in a well-established (mikvah, eruv, Jewish community center, kosher establishments, etc.), “haimish,” vibrant community in Nassau County, Long Island, with affordable housing.  Over two dozen yeshivot are located within our immediate vicinity and our community is convenient and fast to Manhattan (40 minutes) and Brooklyn (45 minutes) via the LIRR.  We offer numerous Torah study and chesed opportunities for people of all different backgrounds, but perhaps what best illustrates the quality of our community is its unparalleled support system.  In times of joy, we dance with our friends and neighbors.  And in times of crisis, we stand together in support and consolation.  We invite you to spend a Shabbat or two with us and experience the warmth and values of our community first-hand!

Rabbi A. Jonathan Muskat, Esq., became the Rabbi of the Young Israel of Oceanside in September 2004.  He received his semikha from Yeshiva University in 1997, and received a Masters degree in Medieval Jewish History and a Bachelors degree in Jewish Studies and Speech and Drama from the same institution in 1994.  At Yeshiva University, he received awards for excellence in Talmud, excellence in Speech and Drama and excellence in Debating, graduated with magna cum laude honors and was a fellow in the Katz Kollel for Advanced Talmudic Studies.  Rabbi Muskat also studied in Yeshivat Sha’alvim in Israel for a year and a half before attending Yeshiva University.  While Rabbi Muskat was in law school at New York University and studying for his semikha, he was the youth director in the Young Israel of Great Neck for four years. 

 

In 1997, Rabbi Muskat received his law degree.  He spent four and a half years as a corporate associate at the 300 attorney firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson in New York, serving as a transactional lawyer on multi-million dollar mergers and acquisitions.  In January 2002, Rabbi Muskat switched careers and became the Rabbi of Congregation Mogen David, in Los Angeles.  In August 2003, Rabbi Muskat began a year of professional enrichment in Jerusalem at Yeshivat Eretz Hemdah and the Puah Insitute, where he gained expertise in issues of halakha and infertility, medicine and family purity.
